Example: Capsular Contracture

A condition where scar tissue that naturally forms around a breast implant tightens, potentially causing firmness or changes in breast shape. Understanding this term helps you recognise symptoms and know when to seek assessment.

Example: En Bloc Capsulectomy

A surgical technique where the implant and surrounding capsule are removed together as one intact unit. This approach is often preferred during implant exchange surgery to minimise exposure to implant materials.

Our Research Approach

Alongside our wider research work, Legacy is developing a dedicated research document for women affected by Breast Implant–Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). This document will bring together current research, lived experience and the questions women tell us matter most.

With care and appropriate safeguards, this work will be shared with research teams to help inform ongoing study. Legacy also plans to make donations to support continued independent research into the causes of BIA-ALCL, contributing to efforts to improve understanding and future outcomes.
